Meet Zachary

Workforce Challenge

Prior to coming into the Sterling Workforce Center and Human Services, Zachary was unemployed and homeless. He had applied for a cleaning position at a local fast food establishment and was offered the position. However, Zachary did not have the required clothes and shoes to accept the position. Human Services referred Zachary to the Sterling Workforce Center.

Workforce Solution

Zachary arrived at the Workforce Center at 4:45 pm asking for assistance in obtaining clothing for work. Zachary was deemed eligible for the WIOA Fast Pass Program. After obtaining verbal and email confirmation that Zachary had been offered a part time position, start 10am the next day, staff sent an email to the director for approval. Since it was the end of work day, arrangements were made for Zachary to meet the Career Coach at the clothing store the next morning at 9:00 am. The Career Coach used a voucher to purchase the appropriate clothing for Zachary to begin his position. Human Services found a place for Zachary to live short term.

Outcomes & Benefits

In the eight months that have passed since, Zachary continues to work at the same place. His hourly wage has increased 14%. Zachary also went from working part time to working full time. He has found better living conditions, sharing a larger size area with a room mate.
