Meet Shelby

Workforce Challenge

Shelby was laid off from her employer where she had worked for several years. She felt lost, not sure what to do, or how to begin the process of looking for another job. She did not even have a resume because it had been a long time since she had to look for a job. She received information about the workforce center in Clear Creek County through an outreach effort by one of the staff in the AJC Business Services team.

Workforce Solution

Shelby contacted the Career Coordinator weeks before the last day of her job, and she worked with a case manager to develop an employment plan at their first meeting. A big help was educating Shelby about all the services that the AJC provides. From there she developed a resume with one-on-one assistance to learn how to correctly market herself. Shelby also completed assessments to look at other possible occupations she might be interested in doing and applied for them. Throughout the process, Shelby received individualized attention to help decrease the concerns she was facing in looking for a new job.

Outcomes & Benefits

Shelby cancelled her last appointment due to the fact she started her new job! The main thing that she felt was helpful was understanding that she was not alone in her job search and there were people she could seek out to ask “what to do now?” when looking for employment.
