Meet N

Workforce Challenge

N dropped out of school in April 2016. She was considered as completing her junior year by the school district, but she still needed ten credits to graduate. She was considering enrolling in an alternative school or getting her GED.

Workforce Solution

The WIOA youth program case manager worked with N to assist her in re-enrolling in school at an alternative school to complete her high school diploma. Her case manager worked with N to provider her necessary assistance including transportation assistance, paying school fees, support, and guidance. One of the requirements for the high school program she enrolled in was that she obtain employment and earn credits for working. N came into the program with no employment history and was having a hard time obtaining employment.

Outcomes & Benefits

The WIOA program provided her with a work experience at the Adams County animal shelter. This allowed N to earn credits at school as well as obtain some work experience. She successfully completed her work experience and has been exposed to the soft skills necessary to be successful in the workforce. She also completed all ten credits necessary to graduate in one school year. Due to her successfully completing her diploma and developing work skills, she will work with her case manager to determine the next steps in her career pathway.
