Meet Erik

Workforce Challenge

Erik came to the workforce looking for some assistance in earning a High School Equivalency certificate. Erik was so behind on credits that he did not think he would be able to graduate as planned and decided to look for another alternative. In addition, he had very little work experience and had always wanted to work in an animal shelter.

Workforce Solution

Erik was placed on a work experience in an animal shelter where he gained relevant work experience. He was able to earn some income while he was working on earning his HSE certificate. Erik’s appraisals were very positives, and he would have been hired full-time if he had his HSE certificate.
Erik also began attending GED preparation classes offered at the WBC and after nine months he was ready for testing on his official tests.

Outcomes & Benefits

Erik passed all his official tests and obtained his High School Equivalency certificate in April, 2017. Erik contacted his former supervisor at the animal shelter and will begin some volunteer hours in the next few weeks. Erik’s former supervisor stated that they will have an opening soon, and he would like Erik to apply for it. Erik is positive about obtaining full-time employment at Adams County animal shelter.
