Meet Mia

Workforce Challenge

Mia was a high school dropout who was working on her GED. She wanted to go to college for business but was unsure about what area specifically. She had held jobs before, mostly in retail, but wanted to find work related to her career goals.

Workforce Solution

After being enrolled in the WIOA youth program and completing her GED, Mia enrolled at Front Range Community College to study business. The youth Business Development Representative helped her create a resume and a cover letter, which she had not done before, to apply for a paid work experience with the Better Business Bureau Serving Denver/Boulder.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mia was offered a position as a Special Projects Intern. She is attending classes Tuesdays and Thursdays and working at the Better Business Bureau Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. She has already learned a number of things about professionalism and communicating in the business world. She has also gained some leadership experience helping high school interns at the worksite and is getting exposure to business to help her hone her career goals as she advances her education.
