Meet Mike

Workforce Challenge

Mike was a vet who was working two jobs, one full time and one part time job. He lost the full-time job and was unable to pay his bills. Mike struggled with working on computers to create a resume or even apply for jobs on line.

Workforce Solution

Mike reached out to the workforce center in Gilpin County developed an employment plan with the help of the career coordinator. They scheduled meetings at either Gilpin or Clear Creek offices to work and create a resume that would fit for certain jobs he was applying for. They also set time together to help learn some basic computer skills and fill out online applications. Mike was also referred to other resources to utilize services that will help create a successful plan. One resource he was referred to was the County Veterans Service Officer to reevaluate his veteran benefits.

Outcomes & Benefits

During the meetings, Mike increased his knowledge of working on computers and completed online applications. This led him to obtain a job with a local employer that allowed him to keep his part time job, and he did not have to travel down the mountain. Mike did create more than one resume for different jobs he was interested in, and he was even able to reconnect with the VA health care system.
