Meet Marcos

Workforce Challenge

Marcos, a bilingual, non-native speaker, immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico after earning an electro-mechanical engineering degree from the Mexican Naval Academy. He settled in Oregon conducting quality control on microwave towers before shipment to worldwide clients; he later relocated to Florida and provided bilingual services before becoming an AirBnB host, settling in Colorado Springs in September where he had great difficulty finding employment.

Workforce Solution

Workforce Center team members provided résumé and interview assistance, encouraged him to attend workshops including Create a Better Resume; LinkedIn and Your Job Search; Preparing for the Interview; and H.I.R.E.D. Marcos also attended hiring events and a job fair.

Outcomes & Benefits

Marcos has been hired full time as a retail merchandising store remodeler with an employer serving Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico. Marcos recalled a day early in his job search at the Workforce Center, “The hair stood up on my neck,” said Marcos. “Your entire staff celebrated a person who found work and I was excited also – I knew one day it would be me. This place is amazing; your team stayed with me and motivated me through the process of finding a job.”
