Meet Dee

Workforce Challenge

Dee is a youth customer who has no employment history and is working on her GED. She has limited access to transportation and is taking GED prep classes at the Brighton office. The office is located on a bus line, but it takes her a long time to get anywhere from here. Dee is required to obtain employment through other programs she is working with. She also did not have enough work appropriate clothing for the type of position she was looking for.

Workforce Solution

It was decided a work experience position would be best for Dee in order to provide flexibility for her GED prep classes and limited transpiration. A position was located in the building she is attending her GED preparation classes. Work appropriate clothing was purchased for her with WIOA funds.

Outcomes & Benefits

Dee interviewed and obtained a position providing customer service assistance alongside front line staff. Her career pathway choice is to obtain an education and work in a human service field working with foster care youth. Her work experience position allows her exposure to a similar type of work in a helping career field. Dee stated she felt good in her new clothing and is excited to have the chance to see what it is like to work in a professional setting.
