Meet Antonia

Workforce Challenge

Antonia entered the program during the winter of 2015. She was a 22-year-old, single mother to two children under the age of five. She lacked a high school education and was having issues finding employment. Focusing on attending school would create child care issues and financial issues such as transportation needed in order to get to and from school.

Workforce Solution

Antonia came to Employment Services to request help with HSE obtainment. Antonia was assigned a youth program case manager who would assist her in working through her barriers.

Outcomes & Benefits

After a full year and almost quitting the WIOA program because life got stressful (kids got sick, car stopped working, family stopped providing child care, frustration from learning), Antonia finally obtained her GED. She also grew in confidence and is now attending Aims Community College's Sterilization Technician program. She will have a career in less than four months.
