Meet Carlos

Workforce Challenge

Carlos worked as a train engineer for years and was laid off due to cutbacks. He wanted to get his CDLAl license to be a truck driver, but was challenged due to a DUI he received in 2013. He needed a good income to help support his two children who live out of state.

Workforce Solution

As his case manager, I checked with a couple of truck driving schools and told them about Carlos' background. I was assured they had companies that would hire Carlos. When Carlos received his CDLA license, his national background check showed he was on probation, which was not true. Carlos hired a lawyer and had the probation removed from his background check.

Outcomes & Benefits

Since Carlos' background check now only shows his DUI from 4 years ago, he was hired by the City and County of Denver as a driver/heavy equipment operator. He now makes a high enough salary to support his children.
