Meet Kyle

Workforce Challenge

Kyle was an out-of-school youth who was on an IEP in high school. For several years, Kyle had worked in the oil fields but was working significantly underemployed hours or was not employed depending on oil field needs. Kyle wanted to obtain a Class A CDL for a self-sufficient wage in an in-demand occupation.

Workforce Solution

Before classroom training began, Kansas WorkforceONE helped Kyle earn a two-week driving job during the peak holiday season through Federal Express that provided Kyle with knowledge and experience in his new occupation. Kyle then attended Seward County Community College from January through February of 2016 and earned his Class A CDL.

Outcomes & Benefits

Kyle completed training and started a full-time job as a driver for APAC in Hays. Kyle worked on several major projects, including rebuilding Highway 40 in Ellis County. Effective September, 2016, Kyle was promoted to asphalt plant supervisor with a significantly higher annual salary.
