SW Colorado Workforce Center

Meet Adam

Workforce Challenge

Adam had been incarcerated for several years and has recently been released to the halfway house in Durango. He came to the workforce center to seek employment. Adam told Gabe, WFC staff, that he has no work skills, so he could not create a resume and could not apply for a job that required work experience.

Workforce Solution

Gabe conducted an initial assessment with Adam and helped him realize the work activity he performed while in prison did give him work experience, and they could create resumes based on that work. They created resumes targeting construction, laundry and cook positions. Adam used those resumes while applying for different positions around town.

Outcomes & Benefits

Durango Quality Inns hired Adam as a laundry attendant. Adam does not believe he would have gotten this job had it not been for the workforce center staff’s assistance in creating resumes and the encouragement given to him that helped him overcome his low self-esteem. He is very grateful.
