Meet Mike

Workforce Challenge

Mike had problems finding work that made a livable wage. He always wanted to be a truck driver. His employer told him he would get a raise if he had a CDL. He didn't have any money to train and came to the Workforce Center requesting help.

Workforce Solution

So Mike went through truck driving school paid by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funds. Upon completion and obtaining his CDLA, he still had problems as his employer would not give him the trucking job promised. So he had problems finding an over-the-road job driving. He finally found a company that would take him and give him a try. Mike loved driving the big rigs and going thousands of miles. Then due to family issues Mike needed to return to this area to work. During this time he kept in contact with his case manager and the training school he attended.

Outcomes & Benefits

During his last call to the school he found out one of his instructors was starting his own training school for truck drivers. And to Mike's great surprise he was asked to be an instructor at the new school. He is so excited to actually be at the new school. He will now be able to help others get their CDLA and new jobs driving. He says he will be giving back what he was given and help others to achieve their dreams.
