Meet Pennie

Workforce Challenge

After being out of work for an extended period of time due to personal illness and dealing with the challenges that came from being homeless, Pennie, a participant with a substantial resume with administrative and sales experience, found herself challenged with a job gap that prevented her from getting hired with the businesses she was looking to work for.

Workforce Solution

Pennie came to the LCWC internship program hoping to use the skills she picked up while homeless…teaching others about local resources, helping others in despair, and wanting to give back to the community that had helped her during this challenging time in her life. Pennie was referred to a worksite where she providing services to others in the community while gaining active work experience and quality professional references.

Outcomes & Benefits

Pennie was able, within weeks of her internship ending, to gain employment offering her more to start than what the position had been posted for due to Pennie’s previous work experience. Additionally, Pennie shared that once she passed the 90 day probationary period, she received full benefits.
