Meet Itzel

Workforce Challenge

Itzel was a youth customer who was attending school at CU Denver for healthcare. She had previously obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through the WIOA youth program with the Adams County Workforce and Business Center and was now interested in part-time work in a CNA role. Itzel had no work experience in a CNA role and many of the jobs she found required a year of job experience.

Workforce Solution

With the help of the Adams County Workforce and Business Center, Itzel was offered a paid work experience to gain exposure to her field of work and get experience using her CNA credential in a CNA role. The work experience was flexible enough to accommodate her full-time education while still giving her paid experience.

Outcomes & Benefits

Itzel began her orientation this week and her supervisor reports she is doing well so far. If she continues to do well during the initial orientation and training period, she will quickly be able to perform CNA duties on her own and continue developing skills. The worksite has already asked about the ability to employ her after her work experience ends and that is one of her goals for the work experience.
