Meet Gordmans Department Store

Workforce Challenge

Gordmans Department Store, a national brand, was opening a new store on the north side of Colorado Springs. The Pikes Peak Workforce Center Business Services Team reached out to Gordmans and established a partnership that led to significant support.

Workforce Solution

The effort, at no-cost to Gordmans, started with a Pikes Peak Workforce Center-led client-needs analysis of Gordmans’ planned hiring effort, and continued with a “Get a Job Monday” segment in the regional newspaper website and on YouTube. This was augmented by an extensive social media effort for members of the public to submit resumes online to be considered for interviews at the multi-day hiring event hosted in the Pikes Peak Workforce Center.

Outcomes & Benefits

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center hosted multiple custom hiring events over 23 days, resulting in 220 interviews and 103 locally-filled positions meeting 95 percent of store staffing requirements. “This is the smoothest staffing effort I’ve heard of in 30 years,” said Shawn Roddy, manager for the new Chapel Hills Gordmans. “If you could do for everyone else what you did for us, it would be the greatest benefit this city could have. We’ve never had support like this."
