Meet Kawala

Workforce Challenge

Kawala had been looking for a job through Adams County Workforce & Business Center since October of 2014. He had received services from both Employment First and Career Services staff, including job search, referrals to resources, and resume preparation. Though he had been working to find employment for years, he was unable to find steady work.

Workforce Solution

One month after Career Services Staff assisted Kawala with his resume, he was able to find employment as a warehouse worker at Interline Brands. In order to keep the job, Kawala needed to earn nine certifications, including a Hazmat certificate and various forklift and warehouse certificates for which testing was required. Because Kawala doesn't have internet access, he used computers at the Workforce Center where he also had staff available to help him with his needs.

Outcomes & Benefits

Kawala's resume got him the interview, and the use of the Workforce Center computers helped him to complete over 20 hours of training and testing to earn his 9 certificates and land his current job. Kawala put in a lot of hard work and also used the resources available to him to help him to succeed.
