Meet Laurie

Workforce Challenge

Laurie came to our WFC in October, 2012, after being laid off from her Billing & Collections job of five years. She needed additional education so she could match her earnings from that job. She was TAA eligible.

Workforce Solution

Laurie was approved for a TAA scholarship to attend a local junior college for an AAS in Accounting. She was also enrolled in the WIA DW program and supportive services were offered to help her financially. She struggled with personal issues (very ill mom and divorce) and had to drop a couple of classes. We used DW funds to pay for the retake of these classes. The case manager met with Laurie several times to assist with counseling and financial support during her very trying times.

Outcomes & Benefits

Laurie graduated with her AAS in Accounting in September, 2016. She was hired before she graduated by a local school district to work in their Human Resources department to handle payroll, etc. making more than her previous job. She is able to support her children, is stable financially and loves her job.
