Meet Jack

Workforce Challenge

Jack came to Workforce Boulder County (WfBC) looking for help finding employment. He brought with him a flash drive that contained an old resume that he couldn't access. He had a history of homelessness and involvement with the criminal justice system, as well as a hearing disability that would require him to find an employer that would allow him to bring his service dog to work with him.

Workforce Solution

Lourdes, WfBC Employment Advisor, was able to access the resume on Jack's flash drive, but she discovered that it was outdated and poorly written and formatted. Lourdes spent four hours helping Jack work on his resume. Together, they rewrote and reformatted it, highlighting Jack's best qualities and experience to make it more appealing to employers. Lourdes also educated Jack about effective job search strategies and helped him understand trends and expectations of him as a job seeker. Jack utilized the computers in the WfBC resource room to conduct job searches and apply for jobs he was interested in.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jack started receiving interview requests and eventually landed a job at an upscale restaurant that paid him well, treated him well, and allowed him to bring his service dog to work as an accommodation. Jack loves his job. He called Lourdes to let her know, "It's the best job I've ever had, and I want to stay for good!"
