Meet Steven

Workforce Challenge

Steven was impacted by the closure of a correctional facility. He holds an M.A Ed. in curriculum & instruction an M.S. Ed. in Secondary School Administration and is licensed to be a School Principal (K-12). He is also pursuing a doctorate in education. He had accepted this job as he is the sole provider for his household, including medical insurance coverage. Steven was recently offered a school principal position requiring he relocate.

Workforce Solution

The Burlington Workforce Center staff did outreach to the closing facility to inform dislocated workers of possible WIOA opportunities, followed by a Rapid Response workshop a few weeks later. Steven received priority of service as he is a veteran. Through the support of his Career Coach, we were able to leverage DW funding to help offset the cost of his relocation and initial commute. We connected him with eligible partner agencies, and he will pursue training assistance to complete his doctorate.

Outcomes & Benefits

Steven was recently offered a position as a principal with the Swink School District. While this new position is in alignment with his long term occupational goals, it required a relocation to be within a reasonable commuting distance. As Steven is a disabled veteran who will not be receiving a relocation package from his employer of separation or new employer, WIOA dislocated worker funds were used to assist the family in relocating so that he could accept this wonderful opportunity.
