Meet Paula

Workforce Challenge

Paula Malone was working for $8.00 per hour as a cashier when she lost her job. She applied for a number of jobs. With no skills and only a high school diploma in today’s economy, the future looked bleak. Paula decided to go back to school but had to also work, finding it impossible to maintain family duties, school and work.

Workforce Solution

She heard about WIA but was doubtful that they would be able to help her. She visited the Laurel WIN Job Center and, to her surprise, was approved for an Individual Training Account (ITA). With the financial support from her ITA, she was able to concentrate fully on her studies and her family without the worry of paying the bills, etc.

Outcomes & Benefits

Paula has completed the LPN program at Jones County Junior College and is now preparing to take her state board exam. She has indicated that this would not have been possible without the help from the WIN Job Center and the WIA program.
