Meet City of Commerce City

Workforce Challenge

The City of Commerce City had a need to fill several administrative positions. Their issue was not receiving candidates, but how to weed out those who may not have the skills to perform the essential functions of the job. The city had hired many individuals to fill these roles, only to find that the employees did not possess the skills stated on their resume/application. The city’s human resources department contacted the Adams County Workforce & Business Center to assist with this issue.

Workforce Solution

Business Service Representatives from the workforce center met with human resources staff from the City of Commerce City to educate them about workforce center services available to employers. It was suggested that the city take advantage of the assessment testing offered through the workforce center at no cost. Workforce staff presented information and provided samples of testing available through the online assessment tool, ProveIt, which would readily meet the employer needs of measuring skill levels prior to an offer of employment.

Outcomes & Benefits

The City of Commerce City chose several assessments that would be useful, and regularly requests these tests for all of their administrative candidates applying for open positions. To date, the workforce center has provided testing for over 100 candidates, and the employer has stated that those assessments have been instrumental in hiring the right talent for the job!
