Meet Roy

This is a story to share with your older job seekers who fear they won't get hired due to their age:
Roy is a 75 year-old-military veteran who was laid off from his job selling auto parts. He wanted similar work and was not interested in other types of employment. I job searched with Roy, but he wasn't able to find a good fit.

Workforce Solution

Because Roy had extensive experience in the automotive industry, from repair to service writing, I suggested he network with colleagues he used to work with to find out if any of them knew of any jobs available to match Roy's skills and goals.

Outcomes & Benefits

Roy got in contact with a former co-worker who told him the shop they used to work for was hiring. Roy applied, but didn't get the job because the employer was unwilling to pay the amount Roy believed he deserved. A younger, less experienced individual was hired for less pay. Not a month later, the new worker was laid off and Roy was hired. Through this experience, the employer came to see great benefit & value in Roy's work ethic and quality. Take heart, older workers. You have a lot to offer.
