Workforce Challenge

Teaching children essential "soft" skills is often challenging. Through the manufacturing sector partnership, quite a few of the partners put together a curriculum to help send the children back to school with an idea of how what they do each day in school translates into the workplace and life.

Workforce Solution

On each of the four days, a different community professional addressed the topics of Attendance, Attitude, Accountability and Ambition with the students enrolled in the TRAINcation Boot Camp. The professionals had different activities ready for the students to participate in and be involved with such as making a brand, spaghetti tower building, scavenger hunt and assembly of a plumbing part keychain. Each day the students toured different manufacturing sites and learned how the attributes played a role in the daily lives of the employees. The curriculum was based on "Bring Your A Game to Work."

Outcomes & Benefits

The result of the TRAINcation Boot Camp was manufacturers were able to see how important their role in community education is on the individual level and how influential they could be on a community platform for changes in the education of the young workforce. The students were able to relate the experiences they have in school and other places to how things work in a job and career and see that small decisions lead to something bigger as they grow in education and understanding.
