Leadville Workforce Center

Met Yesenia

Workforce Challenge

Yesenia came into the Workforce Center at the beginning of her last semester of high school. She was interested in Career Exploration and had a barrier to employment. She was interested in Nursing or Social Services. The Leadville WFC contacted the Youth Career Coach to determine her eligibility and then they contacted the Department of Social Services and a local nurse to see if work experiences were a possibility.

Workforce Solution

Workforce staff decided that a work-based learning experience would hold the most value for Yesenia and set up a work experience at the Department of Human Services. Yesenia did an incredible job and assisted in hosting a Wraparound mental health awareness assembly for youth in her community in addition to the many family meetings she helped facilitate. Yesenia is bi-lingual in English and Spanish and was also asked to translate during meetings with families.

Outcomes & Benefits

Last week, Yesenia interviewed for the Public Assistant Technician at the Lake County Department of Human Services. She was offered the job and starts work August 8th. She is an incredible young woman and she is embracing the opportunities that have been provided to her through WFC staff, WIOA and the community in achieving excellence.
