Meet Karla

Workforce Challenge

Karla, an unemployed 24-year-old mother of six children came to the workforce center seeking assistance with obtaining her GED. Karla and her boyfriend moved to Colorado from California, and she had been unable to find employment. She wanted to get her GED and needed assistance finding employment to help support her family.

Workforce Solution

Workforce center staff were able to provide Karla with information on local GED prep programs that had evening classes. This was important to Karla so her husband could take care of the kids while she attended classes. Karla was also able to obtain employment, but was unable to start the job due to the fact she lacked the proper clothing required by the employer. Her case manager assisted her in locating appropriate clothing in our clothing closet.

Outcomes & Benefits

Karla has now started a part--time evening shift at a local fast food restaurant to help provide for her family while she attends evening GED classes. Karla said she knows this will be hard, but she knows it is important to do this to provide for her kids and give them a future.
