Meet Earlene

Workforce Challenge

Earlene was enrolled into the Youth Succeed program to get assistance with graduating from high school and to receive supportive services to help her. She requested help building her work skills and to successfully transition to community college. She also needed a job for the summer and wanted experience working with children to see if pediatric nursing was the career pathway she wanted to pursue.

Workforce Solution

Earlene graduated from high school and worked with her post secondary options coach and case manager to enroll with Front Range Community College for fall 2016 classes. To help her gain work experience, the Adams County Youth Succeed program provided Earlene with a referral to the Boys and Girls Club of Metro-Denver branch in Brighton, a partner worksite for work experiences. She interviewed and was hired to do a paid work experience during the summer before she would start community college.

Outcomes & Benefits

Earlene worked with children in the learning center--tutoring them, managing the classroom, facilitating activities, and assisting with field trips. Her supervisors had glowing reviews of her work and her rapport with the kids. They have asked her if she can continue working there during her fall semester. Earlene is registered at Front Range Community College for a CNA program and is looking forward to pursuing a higher nursing degree and will work towards an associate of arts degree that will assist her with transferring to a four-year college to become a nurse. She is looking forward to working with kids in the medical field. Congrats Earlene!
