Meet Margaret

Workforce Challenge

Margaret has an AA degree in business and had a variety of jobs. Her longest was in banking, 2004-2010, and her most recent in Medicare QA, departing 10/2014. Her TABE scores at CCA were 9.6 reading and 6.9 Math. She was struggling with income/budget issues. She and her husband, along with their two children, were living with Margaret's mother-in-law because they were finding it hard to afford their own housing, and they shared one car. Her husband would drop her off at school before his job and pick her up after work.

Workforce Solution

Margaret’s request for tuition assistance was presented to the WIOA committee, and she was approved for training, including the certification exam in Patient Services. Margaret was approved for the full tuition amount in WIOA assistance, and she completed her Patient Services training. After graduation, WIOA continued working with Margie toward her employment goals and made a referral to Dress For Success for interview clothing.

Outcomes & Benefits

Margaret now works for Kaiser Permanente in the answering services department. Margaret said, "I have full coverage for my entire family that costs me $0, no deductible, $10 sweet!" She is happily employed and believes it is all due to the training she received that made her qualified for the position. It was Margaret's dream to be employed at Kaiser, and now she will only work her way up within the organization!
