Meet Tyler

Workforce Challenge

After serving 12 years in the US Army, Tyler was a highly decorated soldier. One of his jobs in the Army while in Iraq was being on a team that helped manufacture equipment on site as needed to help with living quarters, field quarters and local housing/protection and safety. When he came back to the states, Tyler decided to go into manufacturing of tools as he liked making the design and final product. He chose a college/class in manufacturing.

Workforce Solution

As a WIOA participant, the funding assisted him with the purchase of required tools as his GI bill would not cover these expenses. The first few months of the class, Tyler said “he felt like he was in kindergarten” again because of his experience in Iraq.

Outcomes & Benefits

Tyler stuck the classes out, graduated, and got a great job at Becton Dickinson Vacutainer Systems, a manufacturing business in Nebraska. The company manufactures blood and urine collection units. Tyler doesn’t make the product, but does maintenance on and makes changes to the equipment that does make the products. His job is classified as Industrial Maintenance.
