Meet Andres

Workforce Challenge

Andres was a youth participant at the Backpacks to Briefcases event from the Adams County Education Consortium, a symposium of workshops on job readiness including a luncheon teaching meal etiquette. Andres was interested in an internship opportunity in the music industry because he is interested in working in the music industry in sound design or production work.

Workforce Solution

A representative from the Adams County Workforce and Business Center hosted a workshop entitled "Volunteer Your Way to a Job" to teach young adults about different types of volunteer opportunities and internships, how to find them, and what work readiness skills they can help build. Part of the workshop included a real-world example story of the production manager of the Fox Theatre and Boulder Theater, Karen, who began as an unpaid intern and now runs the whole production department and supervises the internship program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Andres attended the workshop, heard Karen's story, and was excited about the possibility of interning at the company. He followed up after the workshop via email and the workshop presenter introduced him to Karen. She explained the internship program in more detail. Andres applied and began as an intern this Saturday. He is excited that the workshop he took prepared him for it and was a fortuitous connection to an opportunity in the particular field he was interested in.
