Meet Anna

Workforce Challenge

Anna came to the Pueblo Workforce Center to seek assistance with paying for CNA training. She had not worked since 2006, due to having a child with a disability who required substantial care. Additionally, Anna’s husband sustained an on-the-job injury and had been unable to work for over a year. Anna was in dire financial need. She was able to secure a job offer from AIM Home Health to care for her child as a CNA, but it was contingent upon her attending nursing assistant training and becoming licensed.

Workforce Solution

Anna was referred to the Adult WIOA program. Not only did she need help paying for training, but she was also in need of supportive services to help her get by until she became employed. Anna faced several challenges along the way: needing a certified Polish translator to translate her high school diploma within a couple of day’s notice, having her car not only break down, but also get broken into, and having to ration gas so she could make her classes. Her career coach researched translation services and was able to get permission to reimburse Anna for the services, so she could start class on schedule. The WIOA program allowed Anna to use electronic means to communicate, whenever possible, so that she did not have to use her gas for appointments and after the training, the program provided reimbursement for transportation costs related to training. WIOA helped Anna get her car running as well, so she would have reliable transportation when she needed it. Additionally, the program paid for her nursing assistant training at Intellitec College, and the items needed for clinicals, to start her on her path to becoming a CNA.

Outcomes & Benefits

Anna, WIOA, Intellitec, and her future employer (AIM Home Health), all worked together to ensure that Anna would be successful in completing her training and going to work. Anna, a native Polish-speaker, passed the nursing assistant training with final grades of 94% and 95% and passed the CNA boards on her first attempt. She is now working as a CNA for AIM Home Health, caring for her child, and earning a living for her family. She expresses her gratitude every time she is contacted by her Career Coach. She is truly thankful for the difference the WIOA program and the Pueblo Workforce Center made in her life.
