Meet Vanessa

Workforce Challenge

Vanessa has never had a real job in the past besides her daily household chores and caring for her two children. Vanessa was referred to our Yuba County 1-Stop, a member county of the North Central Consortium, by her CalWorks Worker for CNA training. Thus a career path can be established.

Workforce Solution

Our Yuba 1-Stop considered Vanessa for its WIOA youth program and provided these services: Objective assessments to determine Reading and Math functioning levels and to determine career cluster. Training services can then be implemented accordingly. Based on the results of her assessments, she has sufficient scores for the CNA program; she also displayed a career cluster in "Service, Skilled" area, which is in agreement with the requested training. Therefore, WIOA program sponsorship has been granted. Prior to her classroom training Vanessa also attended the "Successful Job Search" workshop where she gained knowledge in Networking, Effective Job Search Strategy and Resume Writing, and Interview Tips.

Outcomes & Benefits

Vanessa obtained regular employment as a CNA with Lincoln Meadow with the assistance (resume development and job leads) of her WIOA youth counselor. She is scheduled to work at least 40 hours per week and is making above minimum wage. She is working the PM shift and she really enjoys what she does.
