Meet A1 Septic

Workforce Challenge

A1 Septic is a local, family-owned company that maintains both residential and commercial septic lines and tanks. They were referred to the Adams County Workforce & Business Center by one of their customers, as they were in need of hiring additional staff. A1 was experiencing difficulty in finding motivated and skilled employees. The owners had never used, or even heard of, the workforce system prior to that referral.

Workforce Solution

Business Service Representatives from the workforce center met with the owners of A1 septic to strategize methods that would bring more attention to their open positions. One obstacle to work around was the business’s lack of technology. The company and family operate without the use of internet, smart phone, or any other more modern technology. They relied on in-person meetings, phone, fax and a Rolodex to operate their business. Even posting a job on Connecting Colorado and receiving resumes electronically was not a possibility.

Outcomes & Benefits

It was determined the best course of action was to post positions on their behalf, screen resumes, and in the process find the right candidate for an On the Job Training opportunity! A1 septic was thrilled at the prospect of participating in an OJT, and being able to fine tune that person’s skills and mentor a new employee. A1 is still in the process of reviewing resumes and conducting interviews, but are happy to not have to rely on Craigslist or word of mouth to find new employees.
