Meet Mia

Workforce Challenge

Mia knew that if she wanted to advance and find a career, her first step was going to be to obtain her GED. Mia had already taken three of the four official GED tests, but knew that she would need assistance with her math, as that was the subject that she struggled with the most in school.

Workforce Solution

Mia came into the Adams County Workforce and Business Center to enroll in the WIOA youth program to receive assistance with her GED. She was enrolled into the program and started GED prep classes at the Workforce Center. She complete three months of prep classes and felt that she was ready to take her official math test. Mia's case manager scheduled her to complete her official math test. Unfortunately, Mia came in short by two points and did not pass the math test. Mia completed a few more weeks of prep classes and felt ready to retake the test a month after the first one. Mia was able to pass her official math test after her first retake.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mia was able to gain the knowledge needed to pass her official math test through the GED prep classes offered at the Adams County Workforce & Business Center. The youth program will assist her in enrolling in post-secondary education and arrange a work experience for her to gain knowledge to become successful in life.
