Meet Joel

Workforce Challenge

Joel was working really hard to support his family, but the pay was low and he didn’t always get 40 hours/week. He drove small trucks for a moving company, but had never been able to get his CDL-A. Because he was a single dad, he needed to get a better job and stay in the Denver area.

Workforce Solution

Joel came to the American Job center in February 2015 and requested WIOA assistance with getting his CDL-A. He was able to begin school in February while working as much as he could. It took him awhile to find a good local truck driving job, but the CDL-A school and the American Job Center continued to help him with his job search.

Outcomes & Benefits

Joel has now been employed full time for four months at a wage that lets him take care of his family. He says, "Needless to say, I'm super happy!!! And of course, I’m very grateful to the AJC for taking the time and a chance on me."
