Meet Destinee

Workforce Challenge

Destinee is a 19-year-old customer who came into the WIOA youth program to receive assistance with Project SEARCH and work towards high school graduation and employment. Destinee has been blind since birth, paired with physical disabilities.

Workforce Solution

Destinee participated in Project SEARCH and completed an internship with the Blood Donor Center. She was provided with supportive services that included transportation assistance to get to and from her internship, career guidance provided by her Career Specialist and additional agency partners, cafeteria food cards to eat lunch at her internship site and supportive mentoring to enhance her soft skills and incentives in regards to her internship evaluations.

Outcomes & Benefits

Destinee successfully completed Project Search and was hired on by her internship site with the Blood Donor Center of Children’s Hospital as an Administrative Professional. She is expected to graduate from the Transitions Program in May 2016. Destinee also possesses a bubbly personality, a determination to become as independent as possible, a motivation for learning, and a desire for economic independence that contributes to her ongoing success.
