Meet Autumn

Workforce Challenge

Autumn’s education was continuously disrupted by her parents break up, which led the family to move from place to place. During her senior year in high school, she moved to Texas for seven months, where she learned that she did not have enough credits to graduate. When she returned to California, a school counselor referred her to the Workforce Development Board for help.

Workforce Solution

Through the Workforce Development Board, Autumn enrolled in an alternative education center to help her stay on track for graduation. She also attended classes to learn about essential life skills. Autumn was provided with work attire for interviews as well as transportation assistance. She says, “The skills I learned taught me the importance of my attitude in school and at work, and how that affects my ability to be successful in life."

Outcomes & Benefits

Autumn graduated from high school, enrolled in college and earned both a National Center for Construction Education and Research certification and an OSHA10 card to work in industrial maintenance. Since then, she has enrolled again to start a two-year associate’s degree in Airframe and Powerplant Technology. To gain experience, she secured an internship with DuBois Aviation, where she is learning how to repair airplanes. She says, “I love the program and the staff. They pushed me to do my best, stay committed to my goals and helped me to follow my dreams of being an aircraft mechanic. The staff members of the program are wonderful people who really care about you.”
