Meet Liliana

Workforce Challenge

Liliana is a single mom, and her child has a disability and needs special care. While pursuing her BSN degree, she was caring for her child and receiving payment from PASCO Home Health for caring for her child. She also was working part time at Children’s Hospital. She was part of a the Choices program; students on this program are considered part time students because they have to work and can’t engage in full time school. Being considered a part-time student limits their financial aid benefits.

Workforce Solution

Liliana heard about WIOA through her school, and she came in to seek assistance and received a WIOA Scholarship, which relieved some her financial burdens so she could focus on school.

Outcomes & Benefits

Liliana graduated in August, 2015, and received her RN license in October, 2015. In November 2015, Liliana’s hard work and dedication paid off; she secured a full time RN position, and she was very grateful for the assistance received.

Liliana’s case exemplifies the burden relief WIOA can provide to students who are facing too many issues to be able to focus in their studies.
