Meet Jeff

Workforce Challenge

Jeff, with a not-so-good background and few computer skills, was interested in applying for a state job with the Transportation Department in his local area (CDOT), which required an online application. Jeff had served time in the Department of Corrections (DOC). The state required very detailed information, so the application process took a long time. Jeff's determination and diligence were tested.

Workforce Solution

With the assistance of Rifle Workforce Center, Jeff collected all required certifications and all DOC paperwork from Parole and the Probation Office. Nettie in the Rifle Workforce Center assisted Jeff with organizing all of the paperwork. In addition to a one-on-one consultation, Jeff participated in the Workforce Center's weekly interviewing workshops where he prepared for a panel interview, participated in mock interviews, reviewed answers to questions, reviewed how to handle his time served and if the subject came up, talked about his recovery. Jeff was guided through interview follow-up and in sending a thank you note.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jeff was offered the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) position after three long months. He went through intensive panel interviews and phone interviews. Jeff was diligent in providing all paperwork at the right times. His start date was in March 2016. The application process started in December 2015. Jeff is thankful for Nettie at the Rifle Workforce Center and for the exceptional assistance and customer service he received.
