Meet Lucila

Workforce Challenge

Lucila was employed as a medical assistant, but when her contract ended, she struggled to find employment. She even applied for minimum wage jobs, but she had no success. Lucila was unemployed for over a year when she learned about High Desert America’s Job Center of California.

Workforce Solution

After an assessment, Lucila was approved for licensed vocational nurse training through Concorde Career College. She was also provided with transportation assistance. With hard work and determination, Lucila finished third in her class (97th percentile). She earned the Professional Student Award, Student of the Term Award and the Shining Star Award three times. Her perfect attendance is a testament of her commitment to building a successful career.

Outcomes & Benefits

Today, Lucila is working full-time as a licensed vocational nurse at Beaver Medical Clinic in Colton. She has increased her wage by 19%. She says, "I would not have been able to afford training without the assistance from the Workforce Development Board."
