Meet Marlene

Workforce Challenge

After 29 years and advancing from an administrative assistant to a position in design engineering, Marlene was laid off from a large aerospace company. As a result of the layoff, she attended a two-day Beach Cities One-Stop career transition workshop, which included information on building a resume, searching for employment and how to network and use social media.

Workforce Solution

After the workshop, Marlene continued to work with Beach Cities One-Stop to find employment. Without a college degree, she thought it best to transition out of the aerospace industry. With guidance from her counselor, Marlene developed a plan to enter the healthcare industry, and she was soon enrolled in a nursing program. She completed the program and passed the state exam, becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Outcomes & Benefits

Upon receiving her license, Marlene accepted employment as a Clinical Review Clinician LVN with Molina Healthcare. Recently, she was promoted to Supervisor of Utilization Management II with an increase in pay.
