Meet Ray

Workforce Challenge

Who says you can’t get a second chance? Ray first started working with the staff at Rifle Workforce in 2012. Ray had some barriers to employment with 15 years served in prison. He went in at a very young age and had no work experience. Once he was released, he was able to work, wanted to work and ready to move on with his life, but no one wanted to hire a felon, so his job opportunities were few.

Workforce Solution

The career coach from the Glenwood Springs WFC worked very closely with Ray. His interest was in driving semis and obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL), but most importantly just to obtain a stable job where the employer could offer a work experience or training opportunity. The career coach found an employer willing to hire Ray for On-the-job Training (OJT). Ray not only learned the job, but he excelled and has been working in a sustainable industry since.

Outcomes & Benefits

Ray wanted to share his story, after receiving word that the Rifle Workforce Center was asking clients to share their success stories. Ray came to the Rifle Workforce Center to let the staff know that without the Workforce Center OJT program, and most importantly without his career coach from the Glenwood Springs WFC, he would have only dreamed of what he has accomplished so far. He is now a truck driver with a CDL Class A License, has a stable job and is about to close on his first home.
