Meet Christian

Workforce Challenge

Living on the streets and addicted to heroin, Christian was approached by a member of YouthHope. After being drug free for several months, he was referred to the @LIKE program where he told staff that he was ready to turn his life around.

Workforce Solution

Life Coach, Nicole said that Christian displayed a "self-awareness and earnestness ... that he was ready to move forward with his life in a positive way." He attended Work Readiness Workshops and never missed a single session of his individualized Life Coaching and Case Management meetings. Although, he did not have work experience, the @LIKE program was able to place him in an internship at Merchandise Connection (MerchCon), a clothing warehouse.

Outcomes & Benefits

Christian excelled in his internship and once completed, MerchCon hired him permanently. He now works up to 38 hours per week and has moved into his own apartment. His Life Coach Nicole says, "The manager said not only that he is very proud of Christian, but that he is a good worker and the other employees like to have him around." Christian is now considering college to become a professional drug and alcohol counselor.
