Meet Venus

Workforce Challenge

Venus was addicted to drugs and living in a foster home. She had lost her two children to social services, but she was determined to get her kids back, got to college and make a better life for herself.

Workforce Solution

Through the Workforce Investment Board's youth program, Venus received help to overcome her drug problem, as well as tools to enter the workforce and develop good study habits for college. She learned how to create a resume, fill out job applications and interview well.

Outcomes & Benefits

Venus secured an attendant position at Premier Medical Transportation. She has already become a CPR Trainer and is now learning to be a first responder. Venus is also enrolled in the nursing program at San Bernardino Valley College. She is successfully juggling motherhood, college and a full-time job. She says, "I feel so good about myself and my family admires me for getting into this program and improving my prospects. I'm able to provide for my children and help my mom with bills. I’m so happy to be a family again and to be pursuing the career of my dreams."
