Meet Justin

Workforce Challenge

Justin grew up in an abusive home. To cope with the violence, he turned to a life on the streets. In his mid-teens, he was placed in a foster care group home. There, Justin decided he wanted a better future. He graduated early from high school and with encouragement from his caseworker, enrolled at Colton, Redlands, Yucaipa - Regional Occupational Program (CRY-ROP), a skills training program for youth supported by the County of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Board.

Workforce Solution

At CRY-ROP, Justin was encouraged to apply for the Pharmacy Technician training program, and he was accepted. Through funding from the Workforce Investment Board, Justin received technical career training, textbooks, uniforms, transportation vouchers and paid work-experience at a local pharmacy.

Outcomes & Benefits

Justin's paid internship led to a permanent job offer at the pharmacy. He is currently working in the company's retail division until he turns 18 and then, he will be transferred to the pharmacy.
