Meet David

Workforce Challenge

As a veteran with four years of service in the Marine Corps, David worked as a cable splicer for almost 14 years when he was laid off. Additionally, the industry had been reducing cable splicer positions so he decided that he wanted to become a commercial driver instead. In order to become a driver, he needed to obtain his Class A driver’s license. David contacted his Employment Development Department veteran representative, who referred him to the Workforce Investment Board's America's Job Centers of California.

Workforce Solution

At the center, David enrolled in truck driving school as well as a number of skill-building workshops that taught him how to search for a job. He was also assigned a career advisor to help him with job referrals.

Outcomes & Benefits

David quickly and successfully completed training to obtain his Class A driver's license. He interviewed with Arizona Pipeline and was immediately offered employment as a truck driver.
