Meet Flora

Workforce Challenge

Flora had been on medical leave for four years following spinal surgery. When she tried to return to work, her employer said she no longer had a job. The news came at the same time her son was tragically killed in an accident. She felt "broken and devastated." Soon after these events, Flora was referred to the America’s Job Center of California in Rancho Cucamonga.

Workforce Solution

At the job center, Flora received training on how to work one-on-one with customers, network with companies and interview well. She said, “I gained a lot of confidence. In addition to all the new training, I was able to review various employment positions and see which jobs would fit my needs.”

Outcomes & Benefits

As a result of her experience, Flora secured a position as a call center operator. The Workforce Investment Board’s help had a huge impact on her future, and she says, “I had felt that my life had come to a complete standstill in the most negative way. This program pulled me out of that dark place. I am so thankful to Judy Jenkins and Grace Cleveland for their ongoing support throughout my time at the AJCC.”
