Meet Mario

Workforce Challenge

As a convicted felon, Mario needed a job to get back on his feet and support his family, including his newborn son. He had previously worked in the medical field, but was unable to pass a background check due to being incarcerated.

Workforce Solution

He sought help at the Workforce Investment Board’s America’s Job Center of California in Victorville by inquiring about truck driver training. While in the process of being approved for training, Mario was able to obtain two pre-hire letters from companies willing to employ him if he passed his driver training. The Workforce Investment Board also provided Mario with intense individual counseling, assessment testing, job search workshops, interviewing skills and resume writing.

Outcomes & Benefits

He successfully completed his Class A truck driver training and started a new job with a truck company in Fontana. He says he is grateful for the assistance he received, and he is now able to support his family.
