Meet Travis

Workforce Challenge

Travis, a long-term unemployed dislocated worker, came in seeking WIOA assistance to complete his associate's degree in Solar Energy. He had very little completed on his WIOA paperwork for his first appointment. He had worked primarily as a cook and in other short-term jobs as a delivery driver and in inventory. He had two instances of being fired from past jobs. He had DUI-2002 & DWAI-2007,for which Travis stated he had attended classes. He also had a restricted license through November 2015.

Workforce Solution

Travis explained in person that he had made these poor choices and had turned over a new leaf. In 2002, he elected to
serve 14 days of incarceration to satisfy his sentence. In 2007, Travis reported attending alcohol classes. Since then he has had no further run-ins with the law, nor any behavior which would lead him to have such involvement. Due to his desire to succeed, Travis was approved through WIOA H4C grant and was approved for financial assistance towards completing his associate's degree in Solar Energy.

Outcomes & Benefits

Travis is now employed full time at Solar City, which is in his field of choice. He has been working at Solar City for about one year. He started part time when he first came to the program and has since had a raise. Travis reported to the case manager that he is happy with the company as he has room for advancement and can see himself advancing from within for years to come.
