Meet Mercedes

Workforce Challenge

Mercedes came to WIOA Youth Succeed program as a dropout and was seeking support to complete her education goal. Mercedes was undecided if she wanted to complete her GED or go back to high school. Mercedes' mother passed away in 2006, and Mercedes began to struggle in school. She understood how important education is and wanted to be successful.

Workforce Solution

Mercedes was enrolled into WIOA Youth Succeed program, and she decided that she wanted to return to high school and complete her high school diploma instead of her GED. Mercedes worked hard and had to overcome the passing of her father in November 2015. The program was able to provide transportation assistance to help Mercedes get to school, offer some empathy support and pay for her school fees.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mercedes is still enrolled in the WIOA Youth Succeed program and completed high school received her diploma in December 2015. The WIOA program was able to pay for her cap and gown. Mercedes is still working with her case manager and is interested in furthering her education in the nursing field.
